Eastern Oklahoma State College

Eastern Oklahoma State College is a public community college founded in 1908, occupying a pleasant campus on the west side of Wilburton. The college offers two-year degrees and is a major employer in the area, giving Wilburton more of a college-town feel than most towns its size. The campus grounds are open to visitors and worth a quick walk.

The college's history is tied to the region's development as a coal and agricultural center — it was established to serve the educational needs of residents in what was then Indian Territory, just one year after Oklahoma statehood. The library holds local history collections that can be useful for anyone interested in the region's Choctaw Nation heritage and early settler history.
