Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Rectory

The Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Rectory on Center Point Road is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, a handsome brick structure that reflects the significant Catholic presence brought to the area by immigrants who came to work the Latimer County coal mines in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The church dates from the early 1900s and is one of the more architecturally distinctive buildings in Wilburton, its simple Gothic-influenced lines standing out against the surrounding landscape. The rectory alongside it is an example of the modest but well-built construction that characterized the region's more prosperous early decades, when coal royalties funded community institutions across southeastern Oklahoma.
