The Wynnewood Refinery is a working petroleum refinery that has been operating since the early oil boom era of the 1910s, making it one of the oldest continuously operating refineries in the United States. It processes light sweet crude oil from the surrounding Mid-Continent fields into gasoline, diesel, and other petroleum products.
The refinery is not open to tours, but it is visible from US-77 as you drive through Wynnewood, and its history is part of the town's identity. Oklahoma's oil industry shaped the entire region, and a refinery of this age — still processing crude a century after it was built — is an unusual piece of industrial history.
