Grants Pass is one of the best bases in southern Oregon for day excursions. Oregon Caves National Monument is about an hour southeast, in the Siskiyou Mountains. The Redwoods of Northern California — Jedediah Smith and the Smith River — are roughly an hour and a half south down the Redwood Highway. Crater Lake is reachable in two hours east. Closer in, Wolf Creek and the historic gold-rush town of Jacksonville are short drives north and southeast respectively.
