Agate Beach

Agate Beach is a long, broad stretch of sand running north from Yaquina Head, named — accurately — for the agates that wash up in winter storms. After a strong storm, beachcombers walk slowly along the tide line picking up the small banded pebbles by the handful.

The state recreation site at the south end has parking, restrooms, and a path down to the beach. From here you can walk north for miles, or turn south for the rocky base of Yaquina Head. Composer Ernest Bloch lived just above the beach in his last years; a small plaque marks the spot.
