Newport Bayfront

The Bayfront is the working face of Newport — a long curving row of fish-processing plants, seafood restaurants, chowder houses, and galleries set on pilings over the water. Sea lions lounge on the docks in noisy heaps, fishing boats unload tuna and Dungeness crab, and the smell of the bay sits over the whole strip.

Walk the length from the Rogue Brewery and Public House on the west to the working docks on the east. Mo's Restaurant, founded here in 1942, is famous for its clam chowder. Local Ocean Seafoods at the eastern end serves fresher, less folksy plates from the same boats that tie up out front. Allow at least a couple of hours; longer at meal times.
