Hug Point State Recreation Site

Dramatic beach south of Cannon Beach, with sea caves, cliffs, and tide-dependent walking

Hug Point is one of the better short coastal outings south of Cannon Beach. At low tide you can walk below sandstone cliffs, peer into small sea caves, and see the old roadbed once used before the modern highway made this stretch of coast easier to pass.

The tide matters here. Arrive with enough margin to explore safely, and do not push around headlands when the water is coming in. With that bit of planning, Hug Point gives you a wilder, more intimate beach experience than the busy view toward Haystack Rock.
