Summer (June through September) is peak season at Cannon Beach. The Sandcastle Festival in June draws large crowds for a weekend, and summer weekends in general book out accommodation well in advance. The weather is cool and often foggy in the mornings, clearing to sun in the afternoons — typical Oregon coast summer. Temperatures rarely get above the mid-60s Fahrenheit.
The shoulder seasons — May and October — are excellent. Fewer crowds, lower prices, and still enough good weather for beach walks and hiking in Ecola State Park. Winter is the dramatic season on the Oregon coast: powerful storms roll in from the Pacific, the waves are extraordinary, and the town itself is quiet and unhurried. The Stormy Weather Arts Festival in November is specifically designed for this off-season period. If you come in winter, waterproof gear is essential.
