Seaside's beach is the reason the town exists. Wide, flat, and several miles long, it is one of the most accessible beaches on the Oregon coast — no cliffs, no rocky access, just a short walk from the parking lots to the sand. The dark-sand beach stretches north and south; the central stretch in front of the Prom is the most active, with families, surfers, and kite fliers sharing the space.
The Pacific here is cold year-round — water temperatures rarely exceed 55°F (13°C) even in August. Swimming is possible but requires a wetsuit if you plan to stay in for more than a few minutes. The surf breaks are consistent enough to attract surfers, and Seaside hosts regional surf competitions. Razor clamming is permitted in season (typically fall through spring); the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife posts opening dates and site reports.
