By car: Seaside is 80 miles (130 km) west of Portland on US-26 (the Sunset Highway), a straight shot through the Coast Range that takes about 90 minutes in normal traffic. The drive itself is pleasant — the highway climbs through dense Douglas fir forest before dropping into the coastal lowlands. On summer weekends and holiday Mondays, the return trip eastbound can stretch to two hours or more as everyone heads home at the same time.
By bus: Northwest Point Shuttle operates a scheduled service between Portland and the north Oregon coast, with stops in Seaside. The journey takes around two hours. There is no direct intercity bus from Portland's main transit network, so the shuttle is the main public transit option. Greyhound does not serve Seaside.
Getting around: The town is small enough to walk. From anywhere near Broadway or the Prom you can reach the beach, the monument, and the main restaurants on foot. There is no local bus service. The Prom itself is bike-friendly and bicycle rentals are available on Broadway.
