Lahaska

Tiny Bucks County crossroads anchored by Peddler's Village and its hand-carved Dentzel carousel.

Lahaska is a tiny crossroads in Buckingham Township, Bucks County, about an hour north of Philadelphia. There is not much to the village itself, but it punches well above its weight as a day-trip destination thanks to Peddler's Village, a sprawling collection of specialty shops and restaurants set among landscaped gardens along Route 202.

Inside Peddler's Village, the Grand Carousel — a 1922 hand-carved Dentzel carousel — is worth a ride even if you are well past childhood. A short walk along Route 202 is the Buckingham Friends Meeting House, the oldest religious building in Bucks County, built in 1768 by Quaker settlers from England. If you are already exploring the area around New Hope or Doylestown, Lahaska is worth a stop for an afternoon of browsing and a meal. The village was once known as Hentown, after a chicken hatchery that occupied a six-acre plot here. The chickens are long gone, replaced by boutiques.

Shopping

Lahaska is essentially a shopping destination. Peddler's Village is the main draw, with dozens of specialty shops in a landscaped village setting right on Route 202.
