Erie Bluffs State Park

Lake Erie state park west of the city, with high bluffs, forest trails, and undeveloped shoreline.

Erie Bluffs State Park protects a quieter, rougher stretch of Lake Erie shore than the beaches of Presque Isle. The draw is the bluff line itself: wooded trails leading to views over open water, with undeveloped shoreline below and a sense of the lake as something larger and wilder than a summer playground.

It is west of Erie and best treated as a half-day nature escape rather than a quick downtown stop. Bring sturdy shoes and check trail conditions, especially after rain. If Presque Isle shows Erie at its most accessible, Erie Bluffs shows the lake edge with fewer concessions and more room to breathe.
