Dobbin House Springhouse Tavern

The basement Springhouse Tavern at the historic Dobbin House (Gettysburg's oldest building, 1776) is a candlelit, low-ceilinged room serving sandwiches, roasted meats, hearty soups, and excellent crab cakes. Servers wear period costume.

It is touristy, undeniably, but the building, the cellar walls cut from the original spring, and the slightly theatrical service add up to a pleasant evening. The upstairs Alexander Dobbin Dining Rooms are the smarter, more expensive option. 89 Steinwehr Avenue.
