Sach's Covered Bridge

A 1854 covered wooden bridge over Marsh Creek south-west of town, used by both Union and Confederate troops during the battle and by Lee's army during the retreat from Gettysburg. The bridge has been restored after multiple floods and a 1996 arson.

The bridge is closed to vehicles but is a popular spot for photographs, especially in autumn when the surrounding maples turn. Ghost-tour operators run regular night-time visits.

A story
Local lore holds that three Confederate deserters were hanged from the rafters of the bridge as the army retreated south after the battle. The bridge is widely reported as one of the most haunted sites in the country — though the rope marks once shown to tourists were probably from later repair work.
