Philadelphia has one of the finest BYOB restaurant cultures in the country — Pennsylvania's liquor laws make a full bar expensive to run, so many of the best small restaurants simply don't bother, and patrons bring their own wine. The bar scene itself is strongest around Rittenhouse Square, Fishtown (the current hip district), and along South Street. For live music, Trocadero Theater in Chinatown and World Cafe Live near Penn's campus are the two venues to know.
