The Wagner Free Institute of Science is a Victorian natural history museum whose exhibit hall has changed little since the 1880s. Specimens are still arranged in old glass-and-cherry cabinets, giving the place the feel of a working 19th-century science collection rather than a modern interactive museum.
The collection includes fossils, minerals, shells, insects, mounted birds and mammals, dinosaur bones, and a saber-toothed tiger found on an institute expedition in 1886. It is most rewarding if you like old museums, scientific history, or quiet places that preserve their original atmosphere.
