Getting There

State College is geographically isolated in the centre of Pennsylvania, which makes getting there interesting. The University Park Airport (SCE) serves the town with connecting flights to Philadelphia, Washington Dulles, Chicago O'Hare, and Detroit, operated primarily by American Eagle and United Express. Flights are reliable but frequency is limited — book early during football weekends, when every seat on every route fills weeks in advance and prices spike dramatically.

By car, State College sits about 200 miles from Philadelphia and 250 miles from New York City via Interstate 80 and US Route 322 — expect roughly three and a half to four hours from either city in normal traffic. From Pittsburgh, it is about 140 miles east on US 22, around two and a half hours. The drives through the Appalachian ridges and valleys are genuinely scenic.

Greyhound and its affiliates serve State College with bus connections to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The journey is long — four to five hours to Philadelphia — but the buses are comfortable and parking in State College on football weekends can be chaotic enough to make a bus attractive.
