Galilee — properly Point Judith / Galilee — is the working fishing port at the southern tip of Narragansett, and one of the busiest commercial fishing harbours in New England. Trawlers and lobster boats unload on the docks beside the Block Island ferry terminal; the smell is straightforward fish, salt and diesel. It feels nothing like the manicured tourism farther up the coast.
The visitor draw is the food. George's of Galilee and Champlin's both serve fried clams, stuffies (stuffed quahogs) and chowder straight off the dock. The state-run ferry to Block Island leaves multiple times a day in summer (foot passenger and car), making Galilee the practical springboard for a day or overnight trip out to the island.
