The South County Museum occupies a corner of Canonchet Farm just north of the town beach: a cluster of restored barns, a working print shop, a one-room schoolhouse and a blacksmith's forge, all dedicated to the rural history of southern Rhode Island. It is small, family-friendly, and the kind of place where retired volunteers actively demonstrate the trades being interpreted — letterpress printing, weaving, carriage restoration.
Open seasonally from May to October, the museum hosts living-history weekends and craft fairs through the summer. Children get a passport to stamp at each building and adults get an unusually clear look at the agricultural economy that filled this coast before tourism took over. Combine a visit with a walk on the Canonchet Farm trails that surround it.
