Melton Memorial Observatory is the University of South Carolina's public-facing observatory. On clear Monday nights it opens for visitors to look through the telescopes at planets, stars, nebulae, or whatever the sky is offering.
It is a small, weather-dependent stop, but a good one if you are in Columbia on the right evening. Check the university's current schedule before crossing town.
