A short walk from the Adams Museum, the Historic Adams House is a 1892 Queen Anne mansion that was sealed up by its second owner Mary Adams in the 1930s and left untouched for half a century. The result is one of the most authentically preserved Victorian interiors in the American West — original furniture, family photographs, light fixtures, even half-used soap in the bathroom.
The house tells the dark family story of the Franklins and the Adamses, who lost children and spouses to tuberculosis, fire and influenza. Guided tours run on the hour and are how the place is best appreciated; the docents are well-trained and the gloomy history is delivered without melodrama.
