The Chicago and North Western Railroad Bridge crosses the Missouri River west of downtown, a reminder that Pierre's isolation was always relative. Rail, river, and government all shaped the city.
It is most interesting as part of the river landscape. Look for it while crossing toward Fort Pierre or walking near the water, where the wide Missouri gives the capital its sense of space.
