Getting There

Pierre is reached mostly by road. U.S. 83 and U.S. 14 meet here, and the city sits well away from I-90, which is part of why it feels so remote compared with most American capitals.

Pierre Regional Airport has limited commercial service, useful mainly for travellers already committed to central South Dakota. Most visitors arrive by car as part of a long cross-state route between Sioux Falls, the Missouri River, the Badlands, and the Black Hills.
