The Trail of Governors places bronze statues of South Dakota governors around central Pierre. It is a slightly odd civic project, but it gives the downtown walk a purpose and turns state political history into something you encounter on corners and sidewalks.
You do not need to know every name to enjoy it. Treat the statues as a way to wander between the capitol, old hotels, county buildings, and the river-facing parts of town.
