Dinosaur Park

Dinosaur Park is pure Rapid City: a hilltop full of green concrete dinosaurs, part children's stop, part Depression-era roadside monument, part unexpectedly good viewpoint. It is free, quick, and more memorable than many polished attractions.

Go near sunset if you can. The dinosaurs make the photos, but the view over Rapid City and the edge of the Black Hills is the reason adults end up liking it too.

A story
The concrete dinosaurs were built in the 1930s, when roadside attractions and Depression-era public works briefly met on a hill above town. They are scientifically outdated now, which only makes them better as travel culture.
