Main Street Square is downtown Rapid City's outdoor living room, used for concerts, markets, skating, public art, and warm-weather lingering. It gives the centre of town a clear gathering point, which many western cities lack.
Check what is on while you are in town. Even when nothing formal is happening, the square is a useful anchor for restaurants, galleries, Art Alley, and the presidents statues.
