The Journey Museum is Rapid City's broadest history museum, connecting geology, archaeology, Native history, pioneers, and the growth of the Black Hills region. It is the best indoor orientation stop before you start driving to the parks and monuments.
The museum is especially useful because the Black Hills are too often reduced to Mount Rushmore alone. Come here first and the landscape outside town becomes more complicated, and more interesting.
