Fort Donelson National Battlefield preserves the Civil War site where Union forces captured the Confederate fort in 1862, forcing a wider retreat from central Tennessee. The National Park Service site has a visitor centre, museum, cemetery, river views, and several miles of trails, making it one of the stronger history trips from the Clarksville area.
