Clarksville Riverwalk

The Clarksville Riverwalk runs along the south bank of the Cumberland River, stretching about 2 miles through the downtown area and connecting several small parks and viewpoints. The paved path is popular with joggers, cyclists, and dog walkers; benches and overlooks give views down the river and across to the wooded north bank.

The Riverwalk passes the site of Fort Defiance, a Civil War earthwork that guarded the river crossing during both Confederate and Union occupation of the town. Interpretive signs along the path explain the military history. The walk is at its best in the morning before the heat builds, or in late afternoon when the light on the river is golden.
