Austin City Limits is the longest-running music programme in American television history, filmed at the Moody Center arena on the UT campus (previously filmed at the smaller KLRU studios, where the famous neon skyline backdrop was created). The programme has featured nearly every major American musician since its launch in 1976, and the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Zilker Park is named after it.
The Moody Center is now one of Austin's premier concert venues, with a 15,000-seat arena that hosts national touring acts. The adjacent ACL Live at the Moody Center is a smaller theatre — about 2,750 capacity — that films live episodes for the television series. Standby and advance tickets for tapings of the television show are available through KLRU; the experience of being in the audience for a filming is quite different from a normal concert. Check the KLRU website for upcoming taping schedules.
