Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is 6 miles southeast of downtown, with direct flights from most major American cities and some international connections. The #20 Capital Metro bus connects the airport to the city centre for a few dollars; taxis, rideshares, and car rentals are all well-supplied.
By car, Austin is 160 miles south of Dallas on I-35, about 2.5 hours in light traffic; 200 miles east of San Antonio on I-35, about 1.5 hours. Houston is 165 miles to the east on US-290, also about 2.5 hours. Interstate 35 runs directly through downtown Austin; traffic on it is notoriously bad during rush hours, and using toll roads (I-130 to the east, SH-45 to the south) can significantly reduce drive times.
The Amtrak Sunset Limited stops at the downtown Austin station three times a week in each direction on the New Orleans–Los Angeles route, but the service is infrequent and trains are often late. Greyhound and FlixBus operate regional bus services to San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas.
