Austin calls itself the Live Music Capital of the World, and 6th Street is ground zero. But the city's bar scene extends well beyond that famous strip, with Rainey Street's bungalow bars, East Austin's craft cocktail spots, and South Congress hangouts all worth exploring.
The music is the heartbeat of Austin nightlife. An endless stream of musicians has come out of this city, and on any given night you can find live performances in dozens of venues across town. South by Southwest (SXSW) in March turns the entire city into one enormous festival, with more than 1,800 artists playing across hundreds of stages.
