Stubb's Amphitheater

Address 801 Red River St

Stubb's is an outdoor amphitheatre and barbecue restaurant on Red River Street that has been one of Austin's premier music venues since the 1970s. The outdoor stage, built in a natural limestone bowl that holds about 2,750 people, has hosted nearly every significant touring act that comes through Austin, along with the free "Gospel Brunch" shows on Sunday mornings that are a beloved Austin institution.

The barbecue at Stubb's is better than the venue alone would require, and eating ribs in the outdoor area while a band plays on the stage behind you is one of those Austin experiences that is as good as it sounds. The Red River Cultural District surrounding Stubb's — a cluster of smaller rock and alternative venues including Mohawk, Empire Control Room, and Beerland — is the city's most concentrated zone of alternative and indie music outside of 6th Street.
