McGee Beach is the downtown bayfront beach, useful when you want sand and water without driving to the islands. The water is usually calmer than the Gulf beaches, and the seawall promenade keeps it tied to the city rather than separated from it.
It is not the prettiest beach in South Texas, but it is convenient, especially for a quick swim, sunset walk, or low-effort morning near downtown hotels.
