A car is the only practical way to get around Kerrville and essential for any exploration of the surrounding Hill Country. The town itself is compact enough that the downtown and riverfront areas are walkable once you have parked, but most of the attractions — Kerrville-Schreiner Park, the Museum of Western Art, and any winery visits — require driving. Ride-share availability is limited compared to larger Texas cities.
The main commercial strip runs along Sidney Baker Street (TX-16), which can get congested on summer weekends when river traffic is heavy. Downtown parking is generally easy and free. For day trips to Fredericksburg, the winery corridor, or state parks to the west, allow extra time on the rural two-lane roads — speed limits are enforced and deer are a real hazard at dusk and dawn.
