Riverside Nature Center

A native plant arboretum and wildlife sanctuary on two acres along the Guadalupe

Address 150 Francisco Lemos St, Kerrville, TX 78028

The Riverside Nature Center occupies two acres of riverbank near the heart of Kerrville, with an arboretum of native Hill Country trees and shrubs, a butterfly garden, and a small wildlife rehabilitation operation. The plant collection is organized to show what the Hill Country landscape looks like in its natural state — a useful counterpoint to the lawns and ornamental plantings that cover most of the town. Labels identify species throughout.

The wildlife rehabilitation side takes in injured and orphaned animals, with some resident animals on permanent display that can't be released. The scale is modest but the execution is good, and it is one of the more worthwhile free stops in town. The riverside setting is pleasant, with a short trail along the Guadalupe connecting to the city's park system.
