Stillhouse Hollow Lake lies south of Killeen on the Lampasas River, a quieter and arguably more scenic alternative to Belton Lake. The surrounding terrain is hillier and more wooded, and the lake has a reputation for cleaner water and better wind conditions for sailing.
The Dana Peak Park area on the north shore is the most developed, with trails, a swim beach, and camping. Hiking trails wind along the bluffs above the water with good views across the lake. Catfish and striped bass are the main catches. The whole area feels less crowded than Belton on most weekends, making it the better choice if you want to find a quiet spot on the shore.
