Miss Hattie's Bordello Museum

Historic downtown bordello preserved as a museum since 1952

Address 18 E Concho Ave, San Angelo, TX

Miss Hattie's operated openly as a brothel on Concho Street from the late 1800s until 1952, when Texas Rangers shut it down during a statewide crackdown on vice. The building was preserved largely intact, and today it operates as an interpretive museum in its original location above what is now a restaurant.

The guided tours (the only way to see the upstairs rooms) take you through the parlour, the individual rooms, and the bar, all still furnished as they were in the early 20th century. The experience is genuinely atmospheric rather than sensationalist. San Angelo was a tough cattle town during the fort era, and Concho Street's saloons and bordellos were the commercial engine of the frontier economy. Miss Hattie's makes that history vivid without sanitising it.

A story
Miss Hattie Converse ran the most respectable of the Concho Street brothels from the 1890s until a Texas Ranger raid shut the place down in 1952. Her house catered to soldiers from Goodfellow Field and ranch hands coming to town. When the Rangers finally closed it, they found the rooms still stocked with Victorian furniture, calling cards, and a telegram system — the same fixtures visitors see today.
