San Angelo State Park wraps around the O.C. Fisher Reservoir on the western edge of the city, covering 7,677 acres of mesquite grassland, limestone outcrops, and shoreline. The landscape is quintessential West Texas — open, dry, and surprisingly beautiful in a spare way. The park has two units on opposite shores of the reservoir, linked by the dam road.
The park is best known locally for mountain biking and hiking on its network of multi-use trails; the terrain suits both beginners and more experienced riders. The reservoir offers fishing (bass, catfish, striped bass) and non-motorised water access. Camping is available at both units. The state longhorn herd grazes freely in the south unit pastures and can usually be spotted near the entrance road in the morning.
