Waxahachie's restaurant scene is small and orientated around the courthouse square. There is reliable Tex-Mex, a couple of barbecue joints, and the sort of cafes that serve breakfast all day. Don't expect fine dining — for that, drive back to Dallas. But the square is pleasant for a long lunch when you are passing through.
The Dove's Nest on the south side of the square is a popular lunch spot in a restored historic building, serving chicken salads, sandwiches, and homemade pies. College Street Pub does decent burgers and a beer selection broader than you would expect from a small Texas town. For Tex-Mex, Two Amigos is the local favourite, and for barbecue head a few minutes out of town to Brookshire's smokehouse or check the trailers that show up at weekend events.
