Deer Creek Reservoir

Deer Creek Reservoir, about 6 miles southwest of Heber City, is a large mountain lake formed by a dam on the Provo River. At 3,000 acres and surrounded by the Wasatch Range, it is one of the most attractive reservoirs in the region — genuinely scenic rather than just functional. In summer it is busy with motorboats, sailboats, and paddleboards; the consistent afternoon winds make it reliable for sailing.

Deer Creek State Park on the eastern shore has a boat ramp, campground, and day-use area with swimming access. Fishing is good year-round: rainbow trout and largemouth bass are the main catches. In winter the reservoir freezes solid enough for ice fishing. The reservoir is also a migration stop for waterfowl, and bald eagles are regularly spotted in the winter months along the shores. Day-use fee required for state park access; the boat ramp has additional fees.
