Snowbasin Ski Resort

Snowbasin, on the southern slopes above the Ogden Valley, is the most serious of the three ski resorts accessible from Huntsville. The resort hosted the men's and women's downhill and Super-G events at the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, and the gondola and facilities were substantially upgraded for the games. The terrain is extensive — around 3,000 acres — with runs suited to all levels, though the mountain's reputation tends toward intermediate and advanced skiers.

The drive from Huntsville takes about fifteen minutes via Snowbasin Road, which switchbacks up through the hills. The resort is generally less crowded than Alta or Park City, and lift queues are rarely a problem except on powder days immediately after a storm. Nordic skiing and snowshoeing are also available at the base of the mountain.
