Brigham Young Winter Home

Brigham Young spent the last winters of his life in St. George, drawn by the mild climate that contrasted with the severity of Salt Lake City winters. His winter home, completed in 1873, is a modest two-storey adobe and frame building on the edge of the historic district. It has been restored and is operated as a historic site by the LDS Church.

The interior gives a good sense of the domestic life of a 19th-century Mormon leader — though the polygamous household arrangement that would have been the reality is handled with characteristic LDS discretion. The on-site interpreters are knowledgeable and generally candid about questions. Free admission; open most days.
