Pioneer Park sits on a red sandstone mesa at the western edge of town, accessible by a short but steep trail from 400 North Street. The mesa gives the best views of St. George and the surrounding valley — the white temple in the middle distance, the red cliffs of Snow Canyon to the north, and the broad sweep of the Mojave Desert stretching toward Nevada. A favourite spot for locals at sunrise and sunset.
The park also has a series of smaller rock formations and volcanic outcrops to explore at mesa level. It is a 20-minute round trip from the trailhead and requires a bit of scrambling in places. Wear decent shoes and go early in summer.
