Quechee Gorge is the obvious short excursion from Woodstock, just east on Route 4, with a bridge viewpoint over Vermont's deepest gorge and trails down toward the Ottauquechee River. Killington and Rutland make longer westbound day trips, while the back roads north toward Pomfret are best treated as a slow scenic drive.
