Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima)

Iconic flag-raising statue and largest cast-bronze work in the world

The Marine Corps War Memorial, better known as the Iwo Jima Memorial, depicts the iconic raising of the American flag on Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima in February 1945. At 78 feet, it is the largest cast-bronze statue in the world.

The memorial stands just north of Arlington National Cemetery near Rosslyn, and offers excellent views of Washington's skyline. Free sunset parades by the US Marine Drum and Bugle Corps are held on Tuesday evenings in summer.
