By car: Harrisonburg sits directly on I-81, the main north-south corridor through the Shenandoah Valley. Richmond is 2.5 hours east via I-64; Washington DC is 2.5 hours north via I-81 and I-66. The Blue Ridge Mountains begin immediately east of town.
By bus: Greyhound and Valley Turnpike buses connect Harrisonburg to Washington DC, Richmond, and other Virginia cities. The Harrisonburg Transit system covers the city itself.
By air: The nearest airports are Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Washington, roughly 2 hours north, and Richmond International (RIC) to the southeast. Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport (SHD) south of town is small and has limited scheduled service.
