Harrisonburg's attractions divide naturally between the university-driven cultural life in town and the outdoor opportunities in the surrounding valley. The downtown historic district is small enough to walk in an hour but has several worthwhile stops. The real draw is access to the mountains and valley — Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, and the caverns system are all within easy reach.
The Saturday farmers' market at the Turner Pavilion is one of the better markets in the Shenandoah Valley and worth timing a visit around.
