Getting Around

A car is the only practical way to cover the peninsula. Distances are short — Bremerton to Poulsbo is twenty minutes, Bremerton to Port Gamble forty — but the road network is two-lane rural through forest and farmland, and traffic outside the few towns is light.

Kitsap Transit runs local buses linking the main settlements (Bremerton, Silverdale, Poulsbo, Port Orchard, Kingston) and connecting with the ferry terminals; useful for staying put in one town and visiting a second, but not for a touring trip. The Bremerton–Port Orchard foot ferry is run by Kitsap Transit and crosses Sinclair Inlet every half hour for the price of a coffee — the quickest way between the two seats of the peninsula.
