A Poulsbo institution since 1966, run by the Sluys family for two generations and now the unofficial reason every visitor wanders down Front Street. The signature Poulsbo bread — a slightly sweet whole-wheat with sunflower seeds — is sold in nine-grain loaves at supermarkets across the Sound; here in the original bakery you also get kringle (a Danish almond-filled pastry), lefse, fat doughnuts, breakfast pastries and decent strong coffee.
The bakery opens at 6:00 a.m. and the morning queue is part of the experience. Eat on the bench outside or take the kringle down to Liberty Bay Waterfront Park, five minutes' walk away.
